This is what the Guida Critica Golosa 2014, written by Paolo Massorbio and Marco Gatti, writes about La Ca’ Vecchia
A few kilometres from the famous Casteggio, in the small village of Rea, the close couple of Tina and Ferdinando, after a lifetime of globetrotting, have reopened this family home, transforming it into a delicious port. Seasonality of raw materials and menus renewed every week. Among the best dishes, the Ligurian rice pie, a typical appetizer of the Po valley, with a platter of cured meats from the farms of the area. The rice prepared into risotto with many different kitchen garden vegetables depending on the season of the year. Otherwise, stuffed pasta, ravioli with stewed meat, or lasagne with homemade pesto sauce. As a second course no need to struggle to get it right. You will be safe with the game or the baked Guinea-fowl served with Fricandò, a deliciousness made with peppers, zucchini, eggplant and tomato sauce. Curiosities? Some off-track dishes are the peppered mussels or the sardines in sauce, which, unexpectedly, bring to the countryside of Pavia the scents and the atmosphere of the sea. Returning promptly to local delicacies with a slice of homemade cake, we are now ready to play the piano if we want to express in music the satisfaction of having stopped here!
